Our Ministries
Gateway Food Bank (Feed Nova Scotia)
Gateway Food Bank was established in 1996. We are a member agency of Feed Nova Scotia. We presently serve 50 – 60 households per month. Included in this count are approximately 50 children under the age of 16.
We are open two days a week…Wednesdays and Thursdays 1:30 – 3:00 pm by appointment only, so that their orders are ready for them when they arrive. There are 6 to 10 volunteers that help in these preparations on a weekly basis, from the receiving of the order from Feed Nova Scotia to greeting the clients and helping with putting it into their cars.
As well as receiving an order from Feed Nova Scotia, we receive help of non-perishables from the Gateway people and two other churches (Vineyard Family Ministry Centre and The Rock Church, both of Lower Sackville).
At Christmas time we prepare approximately 40 hampers. These consist of turkey and all the trimmings for a Christmas dinner. Also, the church has an “Angel tree” set up at the back and individuals or families take one or more and buy a gift for children of the household that receives a hamper. Volunteers of 20 people or more help prepare and deliver these hampers. We have been serving dinners periodically for the clients, jointly with the church people. These times generally include a program or music, drama, etc. and have proven to be an enjoyable time for the volunteers and clients alike.
We aim to meet not only food needs for the people who come but moral and spiritual support. This ministry follows our mandate of Isaiah 61: 1-3.
Emergency Shelter
Also in 1995 we opened emergency shelter facilities to give those in need a place to stay while helping them find permenent work and living arrangements. With no strings attached.
Counselling Centre (Christian Counselling Ministries)
Christian Counselling Ministries provides a broad range of counselling services founded on God’s truths to help people move toward wholeness. CCM is well known for the counselling that is provided by our therapists. This counselling is offered at affordable rates for people that could not otherwise afford professional counselling.Gateway has a branch office to provide counselling services. Friday Night (Jr. High)
The last Friday of the month, Jr. High youth are invited to hang out at Gateway. We listen to music, play basketball and other games, have a God talk and end the night with a game. All Jr. High youth are welcome.
Jr. High Girls' Night is an extension of this. The next girls' evening is Aug.13th.
Alpha (Marriage and Pre-Marital)
Marriage Alpha is an eight week course that we regularly run for married couples to enrich their marriages. We also offer individualized or group Alpha Marriage Preparation courses for those planning to enter into marriage.
Love Sackville
To love the people of our cities into a relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus said to love God with everything, and to love our neighbour. We want to draw people to Jesus through the unity of the city church, expressing its love for people through simple acts of kindness with no strings attached.
Showing our love for God through worship, service, and our love for one another.
Gateway has been involved with, "Love Sackille", for past number of years. Partnering with many churches in our city to display the love of Jesus in our community.
